Finding a Job Using the Web to Win
Wednesday 23 December 2009 @ 11:50 am

A modern job search campaign is by nature pretty intricate. While the net has offered a variety of new channels, it also creates increased competition for choice jobs and possible challenges for job hunters.

Job search needs to be thought of as a personal, very directed marketing process where you are the product. Your resume is an advertisement. Your extended network of contacts is your source for job leads.

So where does the net fit in? At AA-Careers, we recently posted a job on Craigslist and got 650 responses in a calendar week. For one job. That’s increased competition.

Had a strong person called us before we ran the ad, they could have landed the position before running in to all that competition. How? By finding someone at our office who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone knew of the job for at least 9 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?

Be sure to check your application matierials carefully! When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily removed with a fast-paced triage process. How? The same way any employer would. By passing over resumes where the objective didn’t match our job. By eliminating candidates whose cover letters gave us causes not to employ them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating candidates whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by rejecting job hunters who didn’t bother to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.

So the good news is that job sites give you a feel of who is hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those positions are posted, the competition is intense. You can still try, if you have a well honed resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.

Another downside to be aware of is how quickly and easily you can be checked on on the internet. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some personal web pages that were in questionable taste. Nothing illegal, but enough to tilt our thinking about who to hire.

AA-Careers provides a extensive set of services for Bay Area job seekers, providing our clients a personal career consultant, a managed job hunting campaign, modern tools like a personal website, video, highly targeted resume, and much more. Let us know if we can help you.

Be careful out there, and good hunting!

T-Mobile and Orange Want All their Spectrum
Monday 14 December 2009 @ 11:05 am

France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom are once again in the news regarding their proposed merger. At the recent Financial Times World Telecoms Conference in London, both the companies have confirmed that they have no plans to let go any of the spectrum owned by them to keep in line with Ofcom’s new limits on spectrum ownership.

The announcement is making waves in the industry, as interested parties and spectators wait to see what Ofcom will do to combat this stand. The spectrum ownership limits are Ofcom’s solution to ensuring a more equitable distribution of existing bandwidth among all players in the market in order to maintain free and fair competition.

Since the merged entity will have a huge market share of 37% and joint spectrum totalling 170MHz, fears have been raised that this massive hold will make it a monopoly in the market, and the entity will dominate the broadband industry in the UK.

Some industry gurus feel that this stand is just a bargaining chip used by the companies to force Ofcom into allocating some of the much desired 900MHz spectrum to the merged entity.

As T-Mobile and Orange Broadband were later entrants in the UK

Concept of Wireless Charging Not a Distant Dream Any More
Wednesday 9 September 2009 @ 7:49 am

There have been several developments in the field of wireless communication, and wireless charging has been one of them. Recently, Duracell took a step forward in this direction by launching its first wireless charger ‘myGrid’ for smartphones.

Battery life is the first on the list of priorities for a user who is looking to buy a laptop or a netbook. Everyone looks for a laptop that can fulfil the basic computing needs and permit one to stay connected to the internet through wireless technology. They also don’t want to be slowed down in their work because of the constant need for recharging the batteries of their systems - click for free laptop with broadband info.

There have been manufacturers who have woken up to the need and have come up with laptops that can run for ten to twelve hours solely on battery power, but theses figures do not always hold true as the battery life depends on the usage of the machine.

Experts believe the next step in battery charging technology could be public charging booths installed, that could help users charge their machines without the use of wires. The concept has been discussed around for quite some time now, but owing to some issues regarding its commercial application, the plans had not progressed much.

However, with Duracell and other companies launching new wireless technologies in the market, it looks as if the day will soon come when users will no longer have to carry wires and would be able to use public charging booths to recharge the batteries of their laptops and netbooks.

History of Dual Sim Cell Phones
Thursday 27 August 2009 @ 2:28 am

A telephone can be defined as an electronic gadget which transforms sounds into electrical signals that can be relayed over great distances as well as convert sounds received back. Mobile phones on the other hand, also known as a hand phone or a wireless phone is an electronic device used for mobile text messaging, and transmission of data. It also comes with extra features for instance email, game features, camera, infrared as well as radio features.

Mobile technology has come a long way over the years. Smart phones are an example of modern day mobile phone technology. Just like the name suggests smart phones are the intelligent version of modern mobile phones. This can be attributed to the advanced capabilities found in them which include the ability to edit office documents as well as send and receive email and fax. Smart phones, as compared to other ordinary mobile phones, may not only allow an individual to view Microsoft files but also allow one to download applications and edit photos taken by the phone’s camera.

Smart phones also have dual SIM card features. Dual SIM cell phones are those which allow an individual or rather are capable of having two totally different phone numbers within it. This is of great advantage to people using it since they do not have to manually switch from one SIM card to the next. Other smart phone models have later emerged and are on high demand from potential clients who are willing to pay the high price.

Tiscali Back to Negotiating With Carphone Warehouse
Wednesday 6 May 2009 @ 10:45 am

The Carphone Warehouse had recently tried to talk to Tiscali about the sale of Tiscali’s UK operations. However, it had to pull out because the asking price was apparently too high.

Now, Tiscali is again back on the negotiating table and Carphone holds the top spot as a potential buyer. Carphone had also recently announced that it is going to de-merge from the broadband company TalkTalk.

With a huge debt burden weighing heavily on Tiscali, it has been trying to get a good deal for its UK arm. It had started with the hopes of making about £600 million from the deal, but is now having to significantly lower the asking price after all negotiations failed. The company might now be getting less than half of what it had initially aimed to get. For more information on broadband providers, click here.

The news of Tiscali starting negotiations again was confirmed in an official statement released by a spokesperson. The statement said that the company is looking for ways to dispose off its UK operations as soon as possible and thereby raising enough money to pay the debt. The ISP is currently facing a debt amounting to £453 million, and many analysts have speculated that the company may not be able to survive for much longer.

Even though the talks have resumed, the amount that Tiscali will be getting will not please the management, but the prime concern right now will be to help the company survive this crisis.

Mobile Broadband Goes Pink to Attract Girls
Wednesday 1 April 2009 @ 10:22 am

Mobile broadband dongles are the new additions to the already long list of fashion accessories. So be ready to face the music if you walk around with an old black dongle with the provider’s logo. While still being niche, the broadband merchandise market has taken yet another step forward by releasing a special pink mobile broadband dongle for girls.

Providers on the lookout for ways to attract users to their mobile broadband products are putting in more creative thought into their merchandise, and it shows. Shinier USB dongles with storage capacity of up to 8 GB ensuring convenience of not having to carry a USB stick around are just the beginning of the new marketing strategies being used.

Designers are cashing in on the current fad as well, with fashion designer Henry Holland creating a polka dotted theme for an O2 dongle. Orange’s E160 dongle and Asus Eee PC netbook both come in pink and look quite classy too if you are into those sort of things - although it is not recommended that you buy both because the shades would clash with each other, and the Eee PC has an on board mobile broadband in any case.

However if the above options fail to excite you, all you need to do is go online and do some shopping. You will surely find at least one skin or theme to your liking, considering the range on offer. So go on girls, keep up with the broadband trend and click here for the latest dongle deals.
