- If you want a more sustainable weight loss, combine negative calorie foods into your meals in the proportion that fit your needs during your diet period.
- Combine your dieting with moderate exercise; this will boost your metabolism even more not only during the workout but continues for a period of time after you’ve stop.
- Do not try to loose weight by starving. Eat small and many meals; then your metabolism will be active all the time.

It is very easy to start smoking but it is an uphill task to quit it. Ask any chain smoker or even a person who smokes just a few cigarettes everyday. Usually a person can stop smoking for a couple of days, then the urge to smoke is so strong that one makes all kinds of excuses to start it again. So you are back to square one.
All kinds of methods have been advocated for quitting smoking, but the one that has made a big impact is Hypnosis. Hypnosis quit smoking methods has divided the medical fraternity into two. While some argue that Hypnosis quit smoking methods are not effective in the long run, there are others who advocate quitting smoking using hypnosis. They feel that hypnosis for quitting smoking is as effective as products that help one stop smoking.
It does not matter how long you have been smoking, whether you are a social smoker or a chain smoker if you want to quit smoking then hypnosis can help you. Everyone who has tried to quit smoking knows about the mood swings, lethargy and the intense cravings. When you use hypnosis to help you stop smoking, you have the help of a hypnotherapist who slowly takes you into a dreamlike state. You relax from head to toe. During this period a person is very receptive to suggestions.
The hypnotherapists would then use many positive suggestions that would help a patient to cut down his cravings for cigarettes. This is because one is in a relaxed state after hypnosis, therefore one feels less stress. And when one is less stressed one does not have the urge to smoke.
There has been a lot of debate on whether hypnosis quit smoking methods work in the long run. Some people are of the opinion that during the period of hypnosis treatment the patient is able to control his urge to smoke, but the moment the treatment is over they cannot control the urge to smoke. In spite of this hypnosis is still one of the most popular methods to help one quit smoking.
In the USA there are quite a few clinics that help one to quit smoking using hypnosis. For example Iowa and Indiana have a number of such clinics.
But the most important thing that you must remember when you want to quit smoking is that any method, whether it is hypnosis quit smoking methods or any other methods will work only if you have the will power to say no to cigarettes.

Eating a healthy dessert doesn’t have to break the bank. While it’s true that Twinkies and Ding-Dongs do cost less (in dollars) than quality healthy foods, the cost to our health is truly frightening!
Follow these tips for low-cost healthy desserts:
1) Try fruit! Full of natural sugars, and naturally fat free, fruit is a great dessert choice! Fresh kiwi, apples, pears, plums and oranges can all be found for about 50 cents per serving.
2) Fat-free pudding costs only 79 cents per box and is quite low in calories!
3) Mix one cup of fat-free yogurt with 1/2 cup of frozen berries for an inexpensive and healthy dessert alternative! A cup of yogurt is usually about 45 cents, while a 1 pound bag of frozen berries sells for only $2 (that’s 33 cents per serving).
4) Fat-free and sugar-free Jell-O is very inexpensive (about 40 cents per box) and boasts only 5 calories per serving!
5) Mix it up! Combine the healthy Jell-O with some canned fruit, or top with non-fat dairy whipped topping (about 99 cents per 16 oz. container).
6) Fat-free and/or sugar-free frozen yogurt tastes quite good, and with only a fraction of the calories you’ll find in ice cream. Remember that a “serving size” is only a 1/2 cup!
7) If you choose to skip dessert altogether, try brushing your teeth immediately after the meal. This will help eliminate the craving for sweets!
Try sugar-free chewing gum for dessert. This option will satisfy your sweet tooth while protecting your waistline!
9) If dining in a restaurant, try ordering just one dessert and splitting it. You’ll save 1/2 the calories, 1/2 the fat, and 1/2 the money!
10) As a last ditch attempt to resist dessert, tell yourself that you WILL have that dessert - right after you complete a 1/2 hour walk. Right after dinner go out for a 1/2 hour walk. If you still feel like eating dessert when you return, then you can do so knowing that at least you’ve had some good exercise!

If you are struggling to lose weight and have tried just about every diet plan and exercise regime on the planet but just keep failing perhaps you should talk to Dotti. No, Dotti isn’t the latest weight loss program or newest gym chain to open. Dotti is a lady from St. Louis, Missouri who chronicled her struggles - and success - at losing weight online. You could say Botti had one of the very first blogs on the Internet, as she started writing about her journey to lose weight in 1998.
Since then she has helped countless thousands of others with weight loss. Through recipes, exercise advice and just personally sharing her story with thousands of others she has motivated people, like Dottie herself, felt that they just could not shed those extra pounds no matter how hard they tried.
Dotti made the Weight Watchers Winning Points meal system a central point of her entire weight loss regime that helped her dramatically change her life. From the beginning, Dotti focused on simple weight loss techniques combined with the Points system to drop the weight and keep it off. In her online journals and various books she has published online about her journey she explains to the reader some of her struggles with weight loss and helps the reader relate to some of their own challenges they are having with weight issues.
What makes Dotti’s weight loss story and website stand above the thousands of other sites out there about weight loss is that she doesn’t try to push you into buying a specialized program or give you unrealistic goals. She explains the simple truth about weight loss and guides the reader down how she did it. There are no quick-fix weight loss plans at Dotti’s, just simple advice that can help you change your life and become the person you always wanted to be.

If you’re a smoker, chances are you’ve tried to quit many times or deep down inside you’ve felt you should quit for obvious reasons pertaining to your health, but have no idea where to start.
I’ve smoked for 22 years and spent over 10,000 dollars trying to quit smoking and finally I am proud to say, I am a “non-smoker.” Yes, there is hope for you!
Let the truth be known; it’s very hard! However, it can be done with the right tools and strategies. There is no way I can share everything I used to help me kick a 22 year smoking habit but what I can do for sure, is share one major tip/strategy I used and use to this day to live a smoke free life.
Start a journal. This can be an online journal such as a blog or a paper journal which happens to be my weapon of choice. I know, I know, every self-help guru says keep a journal. Well I’m not a Guru and it’s working for me so please stay with me here.
I know, everyone says “keep a journal” but not many go into details about the “why and how” so we really don’t feel motivated to start recording our life. This is one of the key distinctions I’ve made in the past. I also noticed that it was a big reason for not starting my journal. So keep reading because I’m going to help you over the “journal hump.”
Say you’re thinking right now about wanting to quit smoking, along comes other thoughts like “I’m too stressed to think about that now. Oh, God, where would I start, but what will I do if I can’t, what if I get fat?” These thoughts are clouded emotions that push your first thought of quitting smoking further and further away.
Keeping a journal will help you take all the emotion out of your daily thoughts and help you get really clear on what you want and how you’re going to get it.
It’s ok to have all kinds of thoughts associated to your quit smoking thoughts; you’ll just want to write them all down in your journal. Then go through the list of thoughts and ask yourself, Are these real concerns that need to be thought out and taken seriously, or, are they just excuses my mind is playing on me to protect me from experiencing the pain that comes with quitting smoking?” That’s right; your mind will come up with all kinds of excuses to avoid quitting and to protect you! Just say “thank you for sharing!”
A paper journal is a black and white, pure logic system and why I like it. This is exactly what is needed when taking on such an outrageous task such as quitting smoking.
There are tons of books and seminars on keeping a journal so let’s keep it really simple. For now, grab a note pad and start a list of why you need to stop smoking. As you write, remember you’re mind will start playing games by coming up with excuses, but don’t give in! You may want to write at the top of the note pad, “My Why Reasons I’m quitting smoking.” Everything I’ve studied about getting your outcomes in life stress the “why” first not the how so write as much as you can.
There are many ways and steps to quit smoking and I hope you will start your own journal as your first step! If you need help, just ask.

According to a recent report from the Associated Press, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate $92 billion in lost wages annually in the United States from smokers who die prematurely. The article also states the economic cost of smoking includes $75.5 billion per year in direct health care costs.
Several employers are desperately trying to help their workers break the smoking habit, not just for their health care costs but also for the general well being of their employees, long after they have left the company. Even ABC’s popular Boston Legal aired an episode recently about an employer trying to assert authority over an employee to stop smoking in an effort to lower health costs.
Some companies have found the services of breakthrough smoke cessation programs. The approach has helped thousands in Europe rid the smoking habit and has seen early success in its infancy in New York.
Rick Tejpaul spearheads one such program. He states,”Health costs and lost wages, along with productivity have recently been under the microscope due to smoking habits of the American workforce.” He continues, “In the last few weeks we have been called by quite a few companies asking us to come in and help their workforce with the process of quitting smoking.”
There are companies that are contemplating increasing the premiums for their smoking workers. Most do not want to get to this point. Decision makers within corporate are willing to pay for smoke cessation programs. Smoking is at an all time low in this country and individuals, corporations and the medical field are seeking support. All that is required is a motivated person who wants to quit.

Prostate cancer is a complex heterogeneous disease that acts differently in different men. Therefore, treatment varies amongst individuals. A wide array of treatments exists for prostate cancer, which includes surgery, radiation, hormone deprivation therapy, chemotherapy, dietary changes and the use of various herbal supplements.
A patient may undergo hormonal therapy to reduce the level of testosterone in the body. Drugs that reduce testosterone production by the testicles like Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LH-RH) agonists are administered. The effect is not immediate and occurs 2-4 weeks after initiation of the therapy. Orchiectomy or castration is a surgical procedure that completely removes the testicles. It produces an immediate and permanent reduction in testosterone. Another alternative hormonal treatment is the use of hormone-blocking drugs, called antiandrogens. Antiandrogens like flutamide and nilutamide block the body’s ability to use androgens, such as testosterone.
Surgeons may use different techniques to remove the prostate. Surgical removal of the entire prostate gland is called radical prostatectomy. Radical prostatectomy is usually performed to remove early-stage prostate cancer that has not yet spread to other parts of the body. Side effects after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer include incontinence and impotence. Cryosurgery, in which liquid nitrogen is used to freeze and kill prostate cancer cells is a common procedure. During cryosurgery, a warming catheter is inserted through the penis and this protects the urethra.
Radiation therapy involves the use of high-energy x-rays or subatomic particles to kill cancer cells. The rays may either be beamed from a machine or emitted by radioactive seeds implanted in the prostate.
Chemotherapy is also used to destroy cancer cells. Drugs are introduced into the body via the blood stream. The drugs work by destroying those cells that divide or grow rapidly. The most common side effects of chemotherapy are tiredness, nausea and hair loss.
Watchful waiting also known as “observation” is an option that physicians may use. The patients receive no active treatment unless symptoms appear. They may be asked to schedule regular medical checkups and report any new symptoms to the doctor immediately.
According to the American Cancer Society, the five-year relative survival rate for patients where cancer is detected while still in the local and regional stage is almost 100%.

Insomnia is more serious than being startled awake by every noise or tossing and turning while trying to fall asleep, because insomnia results in day-time tiredness, irritability and, at worst, depression. Insomnia is most often caused by sleep disorders, but also by emotional stress or stimulants. In addition to an overactive mind, stress, anxiety and fear, also caffeine, some medications and herbs easily disturb the quality of your sleep and cause sleeping problems. Physical pain is a common cause of insomnia as well. Short-time symptoms of insomnia are bearable, although frustrating, but night after night for months or years, the most serious issues of insomnia accumulate and can cause serious health problems.
Many insomniacs rely on sleeping tablets and other sedatives to try to get some rest. Others use herbs such as valerian, chamomile, lavender, or passion-flower. On the other hand, acupressure is a safe, drug-free technique that has been used to treat insomnia sufferers by traditional Chinese medicine practitioners for thousands of years. In many cases, acupressure is sufficient to break the insomnia cycle without the need for sedatives and sleeping tablets.
Acupressure, with its focus on healing whole syndromes rather than individual symptoms, has shown great success treating those who experience insomnia. It also has been widely successful in relieving depression, stress and physical pain. With ongoing studies showing promising results in the treatment of numerous health conditions, acupressure is gaining popularity as a way to overcome all kinds of troubling ailments. Some relatively recent areas of study include both alertness and fatigue, and this form of treatment can be beneficial in both instances as it works with the body’s vital energies. Acupressure can be used to help treat insomnia due in part to its benefits in promoting better overall health and relaxation, as well as the treatment of related problems such as back pain that may be contributing to the sleep disturbance.
Like other conditions which can benefit from acupressure treatment, using this approach to treating insomnia allows you to steer clear of medications that can lead to a host of side effects. Safe, natural, and drug-free, acupressure involves a whole approach to better health and wellness, and encourages you to become more in tune with your body’s needs. Pain and illness are indications of a problem that needs to be addressed, and acupressure works to solve the underlying issues, rather than just treat the symptoms.
Acupressure treatment can be administered by a trained practitioner, or you can learn techniques to help yourself. Either way, the benefits are likely to be numerous, as you improve the flow of vital energies throughout your body, and experience improved energy or relaxation.
Commonly noted benefits of acupressure include increased immune function and decreased stress levels, improved digestive abilities, better sleeping patterns, decrease in various pains and a general sense of well being, which are all excellent treatments for insomnia.
Virpi Tervonen reveals the most effective acupressure points that relieve lower back and hip pain, sciatica, and stiff shoulders and neck in her new acupressure guide. These safe and simple techniques are demonstrated step-by-step in numerous descriptive photos and video clips. Claim your own copy at http://www.HomeBackPainAcupressure.com.
Recently, a Japanese study showed dramatic results of organ fat
loss and increased muscle strength, in test rats fed rare
phytochemicals from baby green apple skins.
Without additional vitamins or supplements, these rats lost 27%
of their internal organ fat — “belly fat” in you and me– and
increased in muscle strength by 16%, in just three weeks. Should
these findings translate to humans, we could be looking at a
true health breakthrough of the new century.
Belly fat in mice and men is a signature of aging. The body
deposits additional fat around the organs and raises blood
levels of cholesterol in response to uncontrolled oxidative
stress (aging) in the organism, because body fat and blood fat
are the natural protectors of every cell in our bodies.
Exercise, which elevates human growth hormone, was the only
proven way to reduce organ fat before the discovery of the
remarkable water-soluble polyphenols given to these test animals.
What could this mean for you? It means that a concentrated
natural apple extract, with no side effects, may reverse some of
the aging markers in the human body. It is also worth noting
that every drug which is given to humans has first shown its
effectiveness and safety in mice and rats.
Ancient Supermen
In ancient mythology, the apple was considered to be the
Goddess’s sacred heart of immortality. The Celts called the
western paradise Avalon, which means “Apple-land.” The Irish
kings received the Goddess’s magic apples of immortality. King
Arthur was taken to Avalon (Apple-land) by the triple Goddess,
in the form of the three fairy queens.
The Scandinavians thought apples essential to resurrection. The
Greeks said Mother Hera kept the magic apple garden in the West,
where the tree of life was guarded by her sacred serpent,
represented by icons showing the great Goddess offering life to
her worshippers in the form of an apple. The Norse Goddess Idun
kept all the gods alive with her magic apples.
And now science is proving the mythic legends. In recent human
tests, polyphenols from apples dramatically raise the biological
activity of all three of the body’s anti-aging, disease-fighting
enzymes- superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase, and
catalase. No wonder the apple eaters were considered to be
“consorts of the Goddess.” Such a man would be stronger, look
better, and live in radiant health much longer than his
non-apple-eating peers.
Modern Medical Marvels
Phytochemicals in baby apple skins may be the closest thing to
“magic” to come out of the labs since penicillin. The list of
health conditions that these botanical compounds improve or
prevent is truly impressive. Apple phytochemicals are showing
promising test results in 3 of the 5 leading disease killers of
Americans, including seven types of cancer, heart disease, and
diabetes.
Apple polyphenols are 6 times more powerful than vitamin C
against human cancer cells in lab tests. They may prevent asthma
attacks, inhibit dental carries, lower cholesterol, and
stabilize insulin response. Recently, scientists from Cornell
University proposed that extracts from apples “could reduce the
risk of neurodegenerative disease such as AD (Alzheimer’s
Disease).”
But unfortunately, an “apple a day” won’t keep the doctor away.
Polyphenols in ordinary grocery store apples are lost through
ripening, storage and processing. Immature green apples, which
are too bitter to eat, contain up to 10 times more polyphenols
than mature fruit. And in nearly every study, the test animals
are not eating whole apples. They are given dehydrated, highly
concentrated powder extracted from the apple skins, the richest
source of these phytochemicals.
The blessing of these natural botanicals are our inheritance as
children of the legendary Goddess, Gaia. Her crown jewels are
the fruit of the trees, and the blossoms of the rain forest. And
her most precious emerald gems– baby apples– may one day
reverse aging, cure disease, and help her children realize their
ultimate perfect health and longevity.
