The Proximity: amazing green hotel!

Had to share this link describing The Proximity, an exceedingly green hotel! The Proximity in North Carolina, USA has a host of environmentally friendly features, including:

  • Uses a third less energy than a normal hotel
  • Sensors in many systems detect optimal energy usage so energy use is dependant on need
  • Many recycled materials used in construction
  • Roof gardens to retain heat and add environmental diversity
  • Provides “fresh air” to guest rooms by constantly cycling in outside air
  • Provides free of charge loan bicycles to guests
  • Uses local vendors wherever possible
  • High tech plumbing cuts water usage by nearly a third in both guest rooms and the back office areas of the hotel

The Proximity say they are committed to their “physical and social environment” while still being able to operate in their economic environment. “It ain’t sustainable to go broke”, as they say.

The Proximity is part of the Quaintance-Weaver Restaurants and Hotels Family, so hopefully it’ll be a success and spawn more environmentally friendly chains from this group.

A truly amazing hotel which looks as good to stay in as it’s carbon balance sheet! Well worth a look if you’re in North Carolina and fancy laying your head down for the night without hurting your conscience!
