UNDERSTANDING PEOPLE AND POWER: AN IMPORTANT KEY TO BUSINESS LEADERSHIP
Thursday 27 March 2008 @ 9:54 pm

“The best leaders are those who understand power and people.
They use this knowledge to make the world a better place.
Leaders guide, mentor, organize, inspire and lead.” ~ Ann Vanino

How well do you understand people and power? To lead effectively
in business, an awareness of both is crucial. Understanding
people involves studying the way people work: what they want in
return for their work, how they work best, what hampers them,
their individual styles, what attitudes and perceptions they
bring to work, how they interact with a team and the nature of
their hopes, dreams and desires.

Do you know leaders who understand people? Truly effective
leaders use this knowledge for the betterment of those who work
for them. Often, leaders who appreciate people build effective
teams. They know how to hire the best people. They can motivate
people to work well together. They can communicate effectively
with their team. Understanding power involves studying the
nature of power and how people use it: how things get done, the
subconscious attitudes and perceptions that affect personal
interactions, how to influence people, and what needs to be done
to get where you want to go.

Do you know leaders who comprehend power? Truly effective
leaders use this knowledge to get things done. Often, leaders
who understand power are successful in reaching their goals.
They can quickly determine the playing field and make the best
moves. They inspire others to success. They can overcome
obstacles as they move forward.

Understanding both people and power does not always go hand in
hand. The leader who has knowledge of people but not of power
becomes ineffective. If they focus only on their team members
and do not keep their teams moving successfully towards their
goals, they lose. The leader who knows only to wield power may
have a vision and know how to reach their goals but cannot build
and motivate a team to get things done. What happens when
leaders have an understanding of both people and power? WOW! You
have a special leader that can motivate people and lead them to
success.

Understanding both power and people is a dance. A leader must
choreograph the building of an effective team and the mapping of
a winning strategy. They must constantly keep sight of team
member needs and what must be done to reach their goal. The
effective leader is always working on both.

Agatha Christie’s ‘Towards Zero’
Thursday 27 March 2008 @ 8:32 pm

The queen of crime thriller dame Agatha Christie is one of my

most favorite authors. I like her novels and stories for two

reasons. First, the plots of the novels and the stories

and the other is that her characters and plots can be fitted

anywhere irrespective of time and place. Sometimes i also

feel that they are known to me. I can find them in everyday

live.

She had written 76 crime novel and short stories. Although

‘Murder of Roger Acroyd’ is considered as her masterpiece,

in my opinion, her masterpiece is towards zero.

In this novel, the main character Nevile Strange is a well

known tennis player. Externally he is very sober and very

sporting who always accepts his loss with smile. but in core

he is cruel and revengeful. His first wife Audre Strange

leaves him for another man. To take the revenge neville plot

a murder of lady Tresselian in such a way that entire

suspicion will fall on Audrey and she will be hanged for

murder which she never commited. When audre saw that

there is no way to prove her innocence she accepted the false

charge against her and tried to take her own life. She was

saved by a man called Mr. Macwhirter. he and superintendent

Battle ( who is the incharge of the case) make a trap for

Neville to make him confess.

According to supt. battle it is not fair that in every detective
story murder happens in first act. But murder should be the

climax of the story. It will take place in the fifth act of the

play. Every people and every incident will converge to that
climax or that ultimate murder.

In this novel, the climax is the murder of Audre Strange which

is planed by Neville Strange. The murder of lady Tressilian is

only a step of it, not the ultimate murder.

I like this novel very much, because the novel is dependent

on psychological crime, which is Agatha’s specialty. Every

character of this novel has a different type of psychology

and you will find their natures familiar to you. We often see

people like Neville, Audre, Kay (another character in the novel),

Mary supt. Battle’s daughter. In this novel Agatha creates

a perfect climate of murder successfully.

Right Boat for the Right Purpose
Thursday 27 March 2008 @ 5:34 pm

When looking out for a boat you must be aware of the fact that no single boat can do everything you desire. Every boat is designed for a specific purpose and is best suited if used for that purpose.
Boats designed to sail on the weekends cannot be used for a passage through the ocean or river. Quick acceleration and load carrying capacity cant be find in a same boat. You can buy a boat only for one or the other purpose such as for race or fishing in a pond etc..

One must first describe the usage of boat before choosing the right kind of boat required. The answer to the question, what type of boat should be purchased completely depends on the usage of the boat. The purchaser should decide the purpose of the purchase of boat and its usage.

Every other human being has different desires, beauty is the first consideration for some people whereas some like boats which can simply solve their purpose. It completely depends on the usage of boat as beauty is very important for sail boats as you’ll spend a majority of time floating and sailing around with many people looking at your sail boat. When someone looks at your boat, you will desire to make sure that it looks amazing.

Speedy boats are primarily needed to race instead of cruise. The ideal boat for speed demons are those that can cut through the water, creating plenty of waves. But there are many cruising sailors who want their boats to move very fast like racing boats with the comfort of cruise.

Some fishermen have very simple requirement and that is a simple fishing boat but some use trackers and other boats that are designed for fishing with some automatic tactics. There are many models of boats available for fishing as fishing is one of the most popular boat activities.

Before purchasing a boat take your time, weigh your options, check your budget and then select the right boat for yourself. After all, its fun boating in water whether its for work or to enjoy!

Honey Coated Hype
Thursday 27 March 2008 @ 7:23 am

Is sugar healthy? Let’s explore the question.

A hundred years ago, the average sugar consumption was five pounds a year and heart disease, cancer and diabetes were practically unknown. Today, Americans eat 158 pounds of sugar a year and heart disease, cancer and diabetes are our number one killers. Is there any correlation?

Although the powerful sugar industry would have you think otherwise, sugar’s not just bad for your teeth, it’s a killer. High glycemic sugars cause an unhealthy insulin surge and replace nutritious foods in your diet. They’re bad for your looks, bad for the way you feel and just plain bad for you - Period! Unhealthy sweets have been shown to lead to obesity, kidney stones, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease and to be a major contributor to behavior and learning problems in children.

The food industry has dozens of word “disguises” for high glycemic sugars. Most common are honey, dextrose, lactose, corn syrup, maltodextrin, mannitol and sorbitol. But no matter what you call it, it’s still dangerous.

And don’t be fooled by so-called “health food” treats. In order to profit from the public sweet tooth, many manufacturers offer a large array of unhealthy sugar-laden foods. The current popular “health food” new age term for sugar is “crystals.” There’s Florida Crystals, cane juice crystals, organic dehydrated cane juice, unbleached crystallized evaporated cane juice and raw cane crystals. These can be found in whole grain cereals, baked goods, granola bars and many other foods and drinks found in “health food” aisles.

Another high-glycemic vesion is Rapadura (or Sucanat). Marketers call Rapadura “the perfect organic, unbleached, unrefined sweetener” and claim “processing methods retain the natural vitamins and minerals in sugar.” This may sound good, but it’s just honey-coated hype.

Sugar has never been grown or consumed for its nutritional value. Although there are some nutrients, they’re miniscule and definitely not worth the trade off. You’re better off eating fresh fruits and vegetables for their high vitamin, mineral and phytonutrient content. Fruits and vegetables have natural sugars in the form of low-glycemic fructose. Plus, there’s plenty of good fiber to support normal insulin response.

Whether you’re shopping at health food stores or supermarkets, read labels. Go for products either extremely low in sugar or sugar-free. And choose fresh fruits and veggies for dessert and snacks.

Cisco CCNP Certification FAQ
Thursday 27 March 2008 @ 4:05 am

To earn your CCNP, you’ve got to pass some very rigorous Cisco exams, and you also need to know the rules regarding this important certification. In this article, I’ll answer some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the CCNP.

Q: What exams do I need to pass to get my CCNP?

A: You have two options, a three-exam path and a four-exam path. Currently, the four-exam path consists of rigorous exams on advanced routing techniques (BSCI), advanced switching (BCMSN), remote access methods (BCRAN), and advanced troubleshooting techniques (CIT). The three-exam path combines the BCMSN and BSCI exams into a single exam, the Composite exam.

Q: Do I have to take them in any order?

A: No, the order is up to the candidate. Most CCNP candidates take the BSCI exam first and the CIT exam last, but again this is up to the candidate.

Q: What else do I have to do to get the CCNP?

A: You must earn your CCNA before you can be CCNP certified (as well as passing the exams, of course).

Q: Is there a recertification requirement?

A: Cisco CCNP certifications are valid for three years. During that time, you must either pass the Composite exam, the BSCI and BCMSN exams, or pass any CCIE written exam.

Q: What if I don’t recertify within the three-year period?

A: You must then meet whatever CCNP requirements there are at that time, from the beginning. It’s easier to make sure you recertify!

Becoming CCNP certified is a great boost to your career and your confidence, and as with any Cisco certification, it’s up to you to stay current with the CCNA and CCNP requirements. Visit the Career Certification section of Cisco’s website regularly to learn about the program’s requirements and changes. It’s not up to them to keep you notified of changes - it’s up to you!
